Reviews and Critiques

My 5th Visit and it Keeps Getting Better and Better!

customer review12.08.09 » I was recently in your restaurant and tried the pizza for the very first time (http://twitpic.com/scvep), and let me just say, it's the best thing going for Celiacs. It really is a fabulous tasting pizza and you got the crust just right... Kudos!!!! I have many great things to say about your restaurant and will share my thoughts on my blog sometime during the next few days. Thank you for the superb service. I hope it will continue to be consistent.

Warm Regards,
Paul

customer review11.10.09 »Sweet mystery of life at last you've found me. Wow. Okay, first, the view, maginifico (my lame attempt at Italian). Seriously, the outdoor patio overlooking the water, (with heaters), was just breathtaking. As soon as I got there for lunch, I wanted to stay for dinner, no kidding!

The waiter was awesome, patient and helpful!

The food, glorious food. YUM. As a gluten free eater with a lot of food issues, I was just in seventh heaven here, it was hard to choose, which is never the case for a hungry gluten free gal.

I opted for the pizza, with olives and spinach. The crust was just divine, the perfect blend of crunch and flavor. The blend of ingredients was so well balanced I think I shed a tear of joy! This was the highlight of healthy eating because the pizza was clean, non oily and fresh. I high fived my sister several times during the meal and told her \"dude we are coming back for dinner\"! We didnt but I wish I had. The egg white omelet I had at home paled in comparison.

Keep up the good and healthy work, it made my day and weekend to be able to enjoy a healthy, nutritious and fun meal with friends.

On a bit of another not, just being honest, my friends pizza (non gluten free) was a bit soggy, so you may want to ask ahead of time and check it out. I love you guys, but had to be honest and say that the regular pizza was not a huge hit with a friend of mine who has very good tatse...sorry..!

I still love you and will back, often.
YUM

Customer Dining Review

customer review11.08.09 » I wish I could bring the chefs to my house! Delicious, inventive, well priced, nutrient dense, fresh, made to order food... great view, kind and patient staff/server. My sister and me and a girlfriend were there for Saturday brunch. Two out of three of us are gluten-free girls, and ordered a tantilizing tomato and olive pizza and a beautifully piled high turkey burger with cheddar, granny smith apples and onions. We shared the delights, did a little gluten-free dance (not making this up)and stated that we would be back often. Baltimore so very much needs a place like this...thumbs up, high-five and fist-bumps. Thank you.

Cordially,
Jill Adler

customer review10.29.09 » I had the pleasure of finding your restaurant this past week on a trip to Baltimore's Inner Harbor. I wanted to send you a message to thank you for offering some Gluten Free options on your menu. Being a traveler, it is certainly a chore to seek out something that is safe to eat and it is always appreciated to find a restaurant that thinks of this dietary allergy.

Thank you again, and I am certainly telling everyone I know to stop in and take in your scenery, service and menu items. The lasagna and pizza I had were out of this world! Probably the best I've sampled and I travel the world.

Cordially,
Bernie Famorca

customer review10.29.09 » We recently hosted an after-wedding brunch for out-of-town guest at Pizzazz. The food was excellent and plentiful, the service wonderful, and the price quite reasonable. If we were to do it over again--the brunch that is, not the wedding--we'd certainly be back at Pizzazz. Thanks Justin!

Killer linguini & clams at Pizzazz Tuscan Grille

08.06.09 A number of media folks were invited to enjoy a dinner and learn more about Pizzazz Tuscan Grille.
I had attended the opening party at Pizzazz and remember remarking about the fresh taste of the marinara sauce. On this evening it was ideal to sit on their deck enjoying the company of my friends. We tasted assorted appetizers: bruschetta, fried calamari and a caprese salad umami rich with the tail-end of the season tomatoes.

The co-owners Deanna Cook and Pete Priola take pride in not using white sugar or white flour in any of their menu items. They offer a large selection of items that are gluten-free, vegetarian friendly, both savory and sweet. If you are into a raw food diet sign up for their newsletter notices on their special 'raw food' dinners. The price point is more than reasonable for most pockets on all the menu items. (check out the slide show HERE)

I ordered the artichoke linguini with clams (Linguini Vongole alla Pietro) and let me tell you, I am a linguini and clam snob. I was suitably impressed enough to want to go back for that dish again. The linguini is offered in two sizes, small $10 and large $14.
As the cooler months come the deck will be enclosed for additional seating and private parties and there will be valet parking.

07.23.09 I recently had dinner with my husband at Pizzazz and all I can say is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I have a gluten allergy and was able to find multiple items on the menu...even gluten free pizza which was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! For those with a gluten allergy...good tasting food is hard to come by. The food was hot and made to order, the service fantastic and the owners...yes the OWNERS rounded on the tables to ensure that every customer was satisfied!! IF you have a food allergy wheat, eggs, dairy etc or not...THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! Organic lovers...they are certified USDA organic!!! This a must see and eat to believe!!!

07.31.09Who knew that Baltimore was hungry for a pizza and pasta place that was health-conscious, locally sourced and organic when possible?

Pizzazz Tuscan Grille (711 Eastern Ave., 410-528-7772), in the Pier V Hotel but independently operated, has been a hit since it opened last month. At breakfast free-range eggs, soy sausage, turkey bacon, green smoothies and a wheat grass shot are on the menu - but also bananas Foster crepes and eggs Benedict. Later in the day you can get an Italian cold cut sandwich but also a Get the Glow Raw Wrap or a black bean vegan burger.

If you don't feel like a thin-crust pizza with Italian sausage, try one of the signature dishes, spinach fettucini primavera, with fresh English peas (shelled in the kitchen), asparagus, baby carrots and cold-pressed olive oil. There's even a gluten-free pizza.

You get the idea.

"It's how I cook at home," says owner Deanna Cook, who is into nutrition and special diets. "I want people to be refreshed and delighted when they leave, not heavy and overstuffed."

Her partner, Pietro Priola, is a native of Sicily, and much of the menu reflects that. But not all. Their chef, Kiet Philavanh, is Thai, so the specials menu often has Asian dishes on it.

Organic and "biodynamic" wines are also featured.

Prices are excellent for food that's nutrient-dense and often organic. Each entree has a small or large option, so the pasta primavera, for instance, is priced at $7 and $10. The most expensive dish is the grilled shrimp, tuna and scallop kebab on summer couscous with mint for $20.

Events at the restaurant, like the "pure food dinners" (often with mostly raw food), have been very popular.

Pizzazz is open every day from 6 a.m. (7 a.m. on the weekend) till midnight.
